Plastic Surgery
Portal
|
Responsibilities:
Information Architecture
Visual Design
Challenge:
Though unusual to market this type of medical service in an
on-line space, the function of this portal is to allow seekers
of plastic surgery one common place to search for both information
about their surgery, as well as find a credible doctor in their
area. The challenge was to allow a way to highlight three different
forms of information: 1. medical procedural information, 2.company
information, 3.client doctor information, while driving users
to always "Schedule Consultation", all on the main screen. Additionally,
future work included a homepage that links all local portals
to one central nation-wide portal. The architecture and design
must allow for both these short and long term goals.
Process:
Personas and scenarios revealed that in order to achieve the
most immediate user satisfaction medical, company, and specific
client doctor information must be brought forward and all three
tiers of navigation must be displayed at all times. An information
architecture was then developed, which provided this structure
to help shape how these three tiers of information could all
be organized and incorporated. This created a primary visual
design challenge -- three different methods of navigation must
be present on all pages of the site, without impeding the vast
amount of medical information needing to be displayed.
Solution:
The portal was divided into three different navigation areas.
The top navigation allows users to search on company information.
Bigger buttons were used and a top level look was designed so
that users would be drawn to this area. This area also contains
the "Schedule Consultation" button. The side navigation is used
to discover unbiased medical information. This provides both
credibility and aide to the user. A scrolling pane was used
within the text area to allow the large amounts of medical content
to scroll within a frame. This affords the ability to keep a
bottom navigation visible at all times. The bottom pane allowed
users to research network doctors on their own, which continually
provides another opportunity to "Schedule Consultation" through
any of the networked doctor's sites. |

Lasik Portal
|
Responsibilities:
Information Architecture
Visual Design
Challenge:
This portal is designed to launch in at least 2 major
cities. Therefore, the homepage design delineates space for
at least these two cities' doctors to be showcased. Medical
information and company information must also be displayable.
Process:
After modeling this site after modified personas from the plastic
surgery portal, new scenarios were discussed. An initial architecture
which highlights the homepage's ability to direct traffic to
featured cities was designed. A visual design which incorporates
this distinction along with more of a newsletter feel was created
to relay the position of "informer" that the site's purpose
provides. The ability to search adds user flexibility.
